E-3 email (SmarterMail): start here

Suggestions appear as you type. Use the up and down arrows to choose one, or press Enter to ask.

If E-3 set up your business email and you sign in to a SmarterMail webmail page, the guides here are for you. First confirm which email service you're on, then pick your task: webmail and passwords, phone and computer setup, forwarding, signatures, folders, space, junk mail or errors. Never send us a password.

The short version

  • SmarterMail is the email system on E-3’s mail server. You use it through webmail in a browser, or in Outlook, Mail and phone apps.
  • Check which service you’re on before following any guide. Steps for Microsoft 365 or Google won’t match.
  • Webmail is at https://mail.e3webmail.com. For apps, use IMAP with mail.e3webmail.com for both incoming and outgoing mail (settings below).
  • Your username is your full email address. You can reset your own password from the webmail sign-in page.
  • When you ask for help, send the details below. Never send a password, a sign-in code or a recovery code.

How do I tell which email service I’m on?

Help for one service can be wrong for another, so take a minute to be sure. These clues run from most to least reliable.

  1. Your E-3 setup email. If it gave you a webmail link at mail.e3webmail.com, you’re on E-3’s SmarterMail service. SmarterTools’ own guide to logging in says your sign-in details come from your email provider. For you, that’s us.
  2. The page where you read mail in a browser. E-3’s webmail at mail.e3webmail.com says “Welcome to SmarterMail” above the Email Address and Password boxes. Microsoft 365 uses a Microsoft sign-in page. Google Workspace opens Gmail.
  3. Your phone’s account settings. An IMAP account using the server mail.e3webmail.com means SmarterMail. Microsoft Exchange or Google points to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
  4. Still not sure? Call 814-399-4655 with your email address.

A free online lookup of your domain’s mail records is a fine read-only check. Please don’t change any DNS settings to “fix” email. A wrong change can stop mail for your whole company.

What are E-3’s email settings?

These are the settings for every mailbox on E-3’s SmarterMail server.

SettingWhat to enter
Account typeIMAP (recommended), not POP
Incoming server (IMAP)mail.e3webmail.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing server (SMTP)mail.e3webmail.com, port 587, STARTTLS (port 465 with SSL/TLS also works)
Outgoing server needs sign-inYes, with the same username and password as incoming
UsernameYour full email address
Webmailhttps://mail.e3webmail.com

Always type mail.e3webmail.com for both servers, not mail.yourdomain.com. The server’s security certificate is issued to mail.e3webmail.com, so using your own domain causes certificate warnings.

What applies to every E-3 email guide?

  • Menu names can vary. These guides follow SmarterTools’ current help pages. The SmarterMail version E-3 runs may label a few buttons differently. If a button isn’t where we say, look for a similar name or call us.
  • IMAP is the account type to use. It keeps mail on the server, so your phone, computer and webmail match. SmarterTools explains the difference in Synchronizing with SmarterMail.
  • Check before deleting an account from a device. A device set up with POP, or mail saved in folders on that computer only, may hold mail that isn’t on the server. Check webmail first. If anything is missing, call us before removing it.
  • Certificate warnings mean stop. First check that both servers say mail.e3webmail.com. If they do and the warning stays, don’t click through it or turn security settings off. Call us.
  • There’s no mailbox size limit on E-3’s server. A “full” message usually comes from the device, not the server; see mailbox full.
  • Two-factor sign-in isn’t currently available on E-3’s mail server, so no app passwords or codes are needed.

What if my email moves to Microsoft 365?

Keep using these SmarterMail guides until your own mailbox has moved. For what a move involves, see moving your email to Microsoft 365.

How do I ask for help safely?

Include these details:

  • Your email address.
  • The device and app, with the version if you know it. For example, “iPhone, Mail app” or “Windows, classic Outlook.”
  • When it started, and whether it’s one person or everyone.
  • The exact error, typed out. If you send a screenshot, cover your name, contacts and message text first.
  • For a missing email: who sent it, roughly when, and any bounce message they got back.

Never send a password by email, in a form, or in the help box on this site. The same goes for sign-in codes and recovery codes. If a message claiming to be from E-3 asks for them, don’t reply; call us.

Why does this matter?

Common email problems fall into a few groups: a forgotten password, a new phone or computer that needs setting up, a full mailbox, or good mail landing in Junk. Starting in the right guide, for the right service, usually solves it without a call.

What if this didn’t work?

If no guide matches, or your screen looks different, stop there. You won’t break anything by waiting. Call 814-399-4655, or use the Get support form with the details above and no passwords.

How does E-3 handle this?

E-3 runs the SmarterMail service. If nobody at your company can get email, call rather than email: 814-399-4655. You can also write to support@e3help.me. Replies usually come within one business day.
