How do I update my phone number, address or hours?
Suggestions appear as you type. Use the up and down arrows to choose one, or press Enter to ask.
List every place the old detail appears: the header or footer, the contact page, any map, and PDFs. Change them all at once in the editor, check the phone link still dials, and save. Then update your Google Business Profile the same day so customers find one answer everywhere.
How do I find every place the old detail appears?
- Search your site for the old number, street name or “Monday.” Many sites have a search box. You can also search Google for site:yoursite.com plus the old detail.
- Look at the header and footer. Phone numbers and hours often sit there on every page.
- Open the contact page and any location or about pages.
- Check maps. An embedded map pin is set separately from the address text.
- Check documents. PDFs such as brochures or price sheets often carry the old details. See how to upload a PDF or document.
- Write the list down. It’s easy to fix three spots and forget the fourth.
The short version
- Contact details usually live in three or four places. Find them all, including the click-to-call link.
- Update Google the same day. For a holiday, add a notice and leave your regular hours alone.
How do I change the details?
- Edit the shared areas first. On classic themes, the header and footer are often widgets under Appearance, then Widgets, as WordPress describes on its Widgets screen page. On block themes, open Appearance, then Editor, then Patterns, and edit the Header or Footer template part.
- Then edit each page. Go to Pages, hover over the page and select Edit. WordPress explains this screen on its Pages screen page. On a page builder site, open the builder and select the edit icon on the section with the details.
- Change the link behind phone numbers. A tappable number is a link that starts with tel:. Select the number, open the link, and change the digits there too.
- Preview at phone width. Use the View menu and choose Mobile, as WordPress describes in How to use the View feature.
- Select Save. Older versions say Update.
Expected result: in a private window, every spot on your list shows the new detail, and tapping the number on a phone dials the new one.
Contact details often sit in several places, so a change made in one spot can miss the others. The edit is quick. Missing the second or third copy is what causes trouble.
How do I post holiday hours or a closure?
- Add a short notice near the top of the home page with the dates, such as “Closed December 24 to 26.”
- Leave your regular hours in place, so the notice reads as an exception.
- Set a reminder to remove the notice when the closure ends.
On Google, use special hours for holidays rather than changing your regular hours.
Why does it matter that everything matches?
Customers act on these details. A wrong number loses the call. Old hours send people to a locked door. When your website and Google disagree, people don’t know which to trust, and search engines don’t either. Our answer on keeping your name, address and phone consistent explains more.
How do I update Google too?
Google lets you edit your hours, phone number and address from your Business Profile. The steps are in Google’s guide to editing your Business Profile. A new address may need Google to verify it again. See how to update your Google Business listing.
What are the common mistakes and edge cases?
- Writing hours differently on each page. “Mon–Fri 8am–5pm” on one page and “Weekdays 8 to 5” on another looks careless. Pick one format.
- Details inside an image. If your hours are part of a graphic, they can’t be edited as text. Replace the graphic with real text.
- The map still shows the old spot. Update the map block or embed, not just the address text.
- Email signatures and forms. Your email signature and form auto-replies may carry the old number. See how to change your email signature.
What if this didn’t work?
- The old detail still shows. Reload in a private window. If it’s still there after a few minutes, the site cache may need clearing.
- You can’t find where the footer is edited. It depends on the theme or page builder. Ask whoever looks after the site.
- Google shows something different from your website. Google sometimes takes suggestions from the public. Check your profile for updates waiting for review.
