How do I update my Google listing or get reviews?

Suggestions appear as you type. Use the up and down arrows to choose one, or press Enter to ask.

Sign in to the Google account that manages your Business Profile, open business.google.com, and select Edit profile to change hours, phone, address or photos. For reviews, select Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and send that link to customers soon after each job. Never offer anything in return.

How do I update my hours and details?

  1. Go to business.google.com and open your profile.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Hours.
  3. Next to Hours, select the pencil icon and choose Open with main hours.
  4. Tick each day you’re open and set the opening and closing times.
  5. Select Save.

Other details, such as phone number, website and description, are in the same Edit profile area. Google checks each change first. Its guide to what happens to your edits says this usually takes up to ten minutes but can take up to 30 days. Each edit shows as Pending, Accepted or Not approved.

These steps follow Google’s guide to editing your business hours.

Holiday and short closures

From Google’s guide to special hours:

  1. Select Edit profile, then Hours.
  2. Next to Special hours, select the pencil icon.
  3. Select Review to confirm a holiday Google suggests, or Add a date for your own.
  4. Tick Closed, or untick it and enter the times. Then select Save.

Special hours only show if your main hours are set to Open with main hours. For a closure of a week or more, Google says to mark the business Temporarily closed instead.

The short version

  • Sign in at business.google.com and select Edit profile to change hours, phone or photos.
  • For reviews: Read reviews, Get more reviews, and share the link. Never offer a reward.

How do I get more reviews?

From Google’s guide to review links and QR codes:

  1. On a computer, open your profile at business.google.com.
  2. Select Read reviews, then Get more reviews.
  3. Select Copy to copy the link, or right-click the QR code and save the image.

Google says the QR code can only be made in a computer browser. Save the link in a note on your phone so it’s handy. Our free review link and QR maker turns it into a printable card.

Then ask every customer, the same way, soon after each job, with a short personal message. For example: “Thanks again for having us out today. If you have a minute, an honest Google review really helps: [your link]”.

Why does this matter?

Your Google listing is often the first thing a customer sees, before your website. Wrong hours send people to a locked door. Recent reviews help people choose you, and replies show you’re listening.

What are the common mistakes and edge cases?

  • Offering a reward. Google’s content policy bans discounts, freebies or money for reviews. It also bans asking only happy customers, and reviews from staff or family.
  • Asking for “five stars”. Ask for an honest review instead. Steering the content breaks the rules.
  • Hours that don’t match your website. Update both on the same day. Matching details help search engines trust your listing. See why consistent business details matter.
  • Google changed your hours. Google may update a profile when people report it’s wrong. You’ll get a notification and an alert in Edit profile. Check it and put the right hours back if needed.
  • Several locations. Each location has its own profile and its own review link.

What if this didn’t work?

  • The business isn’t showing on Maps. The profile may not be verified. Select Get verified and pick a method Google offers. Check your address is entered. If customers don’t visit you there, hide it and list a service area instead, as Google’s guidelines require. Google’s verification guide says reviews can take up to five business days.
  • Video verification. If Google offers a live video call, you must be at the business. Google asks you to show your location, such as signs or the street, your equipment, and proof you manage it.
  • An edit wasn’t approved. Check it matches your website and signage, then try once more. Don’t keep resubmitting.
  • You can’t find Edit profile. You may be signed in with the wrong Google account, or not be an owner or manager. See share access safely.
  • A customer says the review link doesn’t work. They need to be signed in to a Google account first.
