Can you move my website to your hosting?

Yes. E-3 moves WordPress sites onto its managed hosting, with SSL, and can move business email too. A move copies the site's files and database to the new server, and you approve the plan and a preview before your domain is switched. Your domain can stay where it is registered.
The short version
- Yes, E-3 moves sites onto our managed WordPress hosting, with SSL.
- A move copies the site’s files and database. You approve a preview before your domain is switched.
- Your domain can stay at its current registrar. Moving hosting and moving a domain are separate jobs.
- If your email moves too, keep checking the old mailbox for a couple of days while the switch settles.
- Next step: start a project.
How does a move with E-3 work?
- Plan the move. Note where the site and email live now, who has the logins, and what must not break: forms, a shop, bookings. You approve the plan.
- Give access. Usually that means inviting E-3 into your current hosting account as a user, or asking your host for a backup. Please don’t email passwords.
- Copy the site. That covers both the files and the database, as WordPress’s migration guide requires. Your WordPress logins come across unchanged.
- Preview the copy. You check and approve a preview on the new hosting before anything switches.
- Switch the domain. After your approval, the domain is pointed at the new server.
- Check the live site after the switch, including forms and checkout.
- Expected result: the same site at the same address, now on E-3’s hosting, with a security certificate.
Keep the old copy until the new one is confirmed working. WordPress’s guide advises the same: keep the old one just in case.
What do I need to send E-3?
- The site’s address, and any other domains that point at it.
- Who hosts the site now, and who registers the domain (often different companies).
- Whether email should move as well, and how many mailboxes.
- Anything that must keep working: online payments, booking tools, members’ logins.
- A good time for the switch, such as a quiet evening.
If you don’t know who hosts or registers what, that’s normal. Who owns my domain? shows how to find out.
Why does this matter?
Where your site lives affects speed, security and who you call when something breaks. With E-3’s hosting and website care, tested updates, daily backups and uptime monitoring all sit with one company. Our what’s included page lists the services.
What are the common mistakes and edge cases?
- Cancelling the old host too early. Take a full backup first, and wait until the new site is confirmed. The old host’s backups usually vanish when the account closes.
- Forgetting about email. Pointing the domain at a new server can affect email if the records aren’t carried across. Plan the email records as part of the move. See adding DNS records for a new service.
- Missing mail during the switch. DNS changes take time to reach everyone. In the meantime, some messages may still arrive at the old mail server. Check the old mailbox for a couple of days. Our answer on DNS propagation explains why.
- Old links still pointing at the previous host. Some plugins or images can stay tied to the old server. Check for broken links after the move. See why links or buttons break.
- A site that isn’t WordPress. Squarespace, Wix and similar builders can’t be copied over as they are. Moving off them means a rebuild. See can you redesign my website?
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
It depends on the site’s size, the shop or booking features, and whether email moves too. You approve the plan before the switch. Nobody can promise zero downtime, but switching at a quiet time and testing before and after keeps it short.
What if something looks wrong after the move?
- The site looks old or different on one device: that device may still see the old server. Try a private window, or wait and check again later.
- Email stopped arriving: check the old mailbox, then tell us right away.
- A form or checkout doesn’t work: tell us which page. Your real-world use is the best check.
