The Wellington Fund: a foundation site that explains how to ask

The Wellington Fund is a nonprofit foundation that supports organizations helping children, families in need and veterans in Pennsylvania. Its site explains the mission, who is eligible and how to request funding. E-3 hosts it and looks after it.

The Wellington Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation. It provides financial assistance to agencies, schools and organizations, with a focus on Western and Central Pennsylvania. Its mission has three parts: educational support so children can succeed in school and life, help for at-risk children and families who need the basic necessities, and support for veterans.

What the site has to do

A grant-making foundation’s site is mostly read by organizations that might apply. They want to know quickly whether they fit, what the foundation funds, and how to ask. A clear site saves time on both sides: fewer applications that were never going to fit, and better ones from organizations that do.

What’s on the site

  • A simple, white homepage with the foundation’s script logo and its mission in plain language.
  • A row of photos that shows who the fund helps: veterans, families, students and the community.
  • An “Are you eligible?” section that links to the eligibility guidelines.
  • A “Request funding” section with instructions for nonprofit organizations.
  • About Us, Our Mission and Contact pages.
  • The phone number and an email link in the footer.

The design is restrained, with lots of white space and a short menu of five items. For a foundation, that’s the right tone: serious, clear and focused on the people it helps rather than on itself. Eligibility and funding requests each appear twice on the homepage, so an organization reading from the top or skimming to the bottom finds the same next step.

What E-3 did

E-3 designed and built the site. E-3 hosts The Wellington Fund on managed WordPress hosting and looks after it under a maintenance plan. Our monitoring checks the site for available updates and known plugin vulnerabilities, so we can catch issues early, ideally before organizations trying to apply notice anything.

The site runs on WordPress with the Genesis framework and the Dynamik child theme, with pages built in Beaver Builder and the PowerPack add-on. It’s a small, stable site, and keeping it that way is the point of looking after it.
