Site problems
Down, slow, broken, wrong on phones, errors or hacked.
Suggestions appear as you type. Use the up and down arrows to choose one, or press Enter to ask.
- I changed my website. Why isn't the change showing?Usually the change is there and you're seeing a saved copy: browsers, sites and services like Cloudflare keep copies so pages load fast. Check it was published, not saved as a draft, then look in a private window or on mobile data. If other computers still see the old site, ask your web team to clear the caches.
- I think my site was hacked. What do I do?Don't start deleting files. Screenshot what you see, note the time, and contact whoever hosts or maintains your site. Change your website, hosting, domain and email passwords from a computer you trust, and turn on two-factor login. Then check Google Search Console for security warnings. E-3 clients: call 814-399-4655 straight away.
- My site shows a critical error or a white screenA blank white page or "There has been a critical error on this website" almost always means a plugin, theme or PHP change crashed. Content is usually still there, but check it afterwards. WordPress emails the site admin a recovery link to log in and turn off the failed part. If you changed nothing, call your web company.
- Something on my page looks broken. Can you fix it?Yes. First rule out your own browser: reload the page, then open it in a private window. If it still looks wrong, send E-3 the page address, a screenshot with any personal details covered, and the device and browser you used. A person at E-3 finds the cause and fixes it.
- Why are some links or buttons on my site broken? Most broken links point at a page that was renamed, moved or deleted, or at an old web address left over from a site move. Buttons usually break because their link was never filled in or points at the wrong place. Click through your main pages, list each bad link and where it should go, then fix or redirect it.
- Why can't I upload images or files to my website? Most failed uploads come down to three things: the file is bigger than your site allows, it's a type the site won't take (an iPhone HEIC photo is the classic), or the server can't save it because of a full disk or a security rule. Shrink the file, save photos as JPG, and try again before asking for help.
- Why does my site look wrong on phones?Usually because part of the page was built for a wide screen: a fixed-width section, an oversized image or table, or a mobile menu that wasn't updated when the desktop menu changed. Check it on a real phone, note which page and which part looks wrong, and send a screenshot to whoever maintains your site.
- Why doesn't the search box on my website find things?WordPress's built-in search only looks at the title, excerpt and main content of published posts and pages. It skips PDFs, most custom fields and private pages, and matches words exactly. Check the page is published, put the words people search for in its title or text, and test again. Searching products or documents needs a search plugin.
- Why is my website down? Most outages come from the server, a bad update, an expired domain or a DNS change. First check whether the site is down for everyone: open it on your phone with Wi-Fi off. If it fails there too, note the exact error and the time, and call whoever hosts your site. E-3 clients: call 814-399-4655.
- Why is my website slow? Most slow small-business sites come down to oversized photos and video, no caching, too many plugins or scripts, or a crowded server. Test your main pages in Google's PageSpeed Insights on mobile to see which applies. Then fix the biggest problem first. That's usually the images at the top of the page.
- Why won't my page editor load, or my changes save?If the editor won't open, spins forever or says "Updating failed", the cause is usually a plugin clash after an update, the server running out of memory, or a security rule blocking the save. If you can't see any edit tools at all, your login may not have editing rights. Copy your text somewhere safe, then report the exact message.
