Can you add social media links or feeds to my site?
Suggestions appear as you type. Use the up and down arrows to choose one, or press Enter to ask.
Yes. E-3 can add social icons that link to your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or other profiles, usually in the header and footer, and can show posts from your accounts where it makes sense. If you'd rather do it yourself, WordPress's Social Icons block adds linked icons in a few minutes. Check that every icon really opens your page.
How do I add social icons myself?
- Collect your profile addresses. Open each profile while logged out and copy the address from the browser bar. That confirms it’s public and correct.
- Open the page, or the header or footer. For a single page, edit it as usual. For icons on every page, the block goes in your header or footer, which block themes edit through the Site Editor (Appearance, then Editor). Older themes may set icons in the theme’s own settings instead.
- Add the block. Select + and search for Social Icons, or type /social icons and press Enter.
- Add an icon. Click the + inside the block and pick the network, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube or Yelp. Use the search box or Browse all if you don’t see yours.
- Paste the link. Click the new icon, paste the profile address and press Enter. For email, type just the address; WordPress builds the link.
- Repeat for each network. Drag icons to reorder them, or use List View in the sidebar.
- Choose the settings. In the sidebar you can set Icon size, turn on Show text for labels, and turn on Open links in a new tab. The block has three styles: Default, Logos only and Pill Shape. Colors can be changed to match your brand under Styles.
- Save and test. On the live site, click every icon, on a computer and a phone, and confirm each opens the right profile.
These steps follow WordPress’s Social Icons block guide.
The short version
- Yes, we can add social icons linked to your real profiles. Or use WordPress’s Social Icons block.
- Click every icon on the live site. Icons that go nowhere are the most common fault.
Can my Instagram or Facebook posts show on my site?
Yes, but it’s not a simple paste. WordPress used to embed Facebook and Instagram posts from a link, but its Embeds page notes that this stopped working in 2020 when Facebook closed the feature. Showing posts now needs a developer app or a feed plugin connected to your account.
That connection is the catch. Feed tools rely on a login token from Meta, and when it expires or Meta changes its rules, the feed goes blank or shows an error. A feed also adds weight to the page. For many small businesses, clear icons plus one or two hand-picked posts or photos work better than a live feed.
Why does this matter?
Many customers check your social pages to see if you’re active and real. Icons on your site send them to the right place, not to a similarly named business. Linking your site and profiles both ways also helps search engines and AI tools connect them to one business.
What are the common mistakes and edge cases?
- Icons with no link. Icons can look right but not link anywhere, for example in the footer while the header ones work. Test both.
- Links to the wrong place. A link copied while logged in can point to an admin or “edit” page that visitors can’t open.
- Dead profiles. Only show networks you actually use. An icon to an account last updated years ago does more harm than none.
- Personal profiles. Link to your business page, not someone’s personal account.
- Too many icons. Pick the networks your customers use; four or five is usually plenty.
What if this didn’t work?
- There’s no Social Icons block. Your editor may be a page builder or the classic editor. Most builders have their own social icon module that works the same way.
- The icons show on one page but not others. You added them to a page, not the header or footer. Move them into the template part, or ask your web team.
- A feed went blank. The account connection has probably expired. Reconnect it in the feed tool’s settings, or tell your web team. If links are broken elsewhere too, see why links or buttons break.
How does E-3 handle this?
Send us the address of each profile you want linked, and say whether you’d like a live feed. A person at E-3 adds the icons. If you want a feed, ask us what it needs from your account and how it stays connected.
